on November 15, Joseph Wheatall at the Latvian Academy of music was presented with evidence of the inclusion of new values in the national intangible cultural Heritage (NKM) list in a ceremony.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This autumn, the Council of Latvian national cultural Centre's intangible cultural Heritage decided to add two new values to the national NKM list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cManufacture of traditional Latvian belts and waistline fabrics\u201d<\/strong> (applicant for value - foundation \u201cweavers of Lielvarde belts\u201d) or weaving of traditional belts with simple tools. The earliest waistline finds in Latvia date back to the 6 th century. The simple tools needed to make traditional belts point to the ancient nature of this skill, which extends into the origins of weaving history. The increase in interest in traditional craft techniques, including belt making, which had already been partially forgotten, has grown in Latvian society with the creation of a national state in the 20 th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Fishing nets in the western Gulf of Riga<\/strong> (Municipalities of Jurmala and Tukums) \u2013 over several centuries, fishing and networking skills were the most important part of the economic activity of coastal residents. Today, too, the skills of fishing net-making positions are maintained and maintained, even though traditional fishing net-making skills nowadays lose their importance. The patching of networks has remained constant \u2013 it is also handmade nowadays. As the development of the fishing industry decreases, the traditional fishing network is maintained as an offer of cultural, cultural and historical heritage and cultural tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, along with the newly added values, the national NKM list is made up of 40 values. Information on the preparation of the value application for the list as well as the OMC Council is available on the website www.nematerialakultura.lv<\/a>. The next submission of applications will be announced in January 2025 and will be given half a year to prepare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
