From September 8 to 10, Etnoday 2023 of young people will take place in Cesis municipality, bringing together young people from Latvian folklore clusters, participants of local folklore clusters and experts from traditional culture. Young people will take part in various workshops and master classes over three days. Every interested person is invited to attend public events, where there will be an opportunity to see and hear the music of Etnoday participants, as well as participate in dancing night.
Young people's Etnodays already traditionally bring together young people interested or willing to deepen their knowledge of folklore in autumn. It is an opportunity to acquire various skills and abilities based on Latvian folklore, also focusing on music and singing. This year's masterclasses will take place in the Drabeesh, Drabesi Manor and Drabesi New primary School, and this time the traditional culture and cultural heritage of North Vidzeme and Cesis County will be highlighted. In ethnodays, participants will focus not only on music and singing, but also on practical skills such as the construction of traditional instruments and local culinary tradition. Given that Etsundays contestants often perform at various events, both as individual artists and members of folklore clusters or chapels, this year's contestants will have the opportunity to master various masterpieces of acting and stage speech under actress Jana Herbst. The masterclasses will also be directed by singer Catherine Dimant.
As part of the event, Cesis will also host public events for two consecutive evenings, available free of charge to anyone interested. September 9 at 21.00 The concert hall “Cesis” will have an evening of dancing in Camerol, while on September 10 at 15.00 In the exhibition House of Cesis, everyone is invited to the Etnoday final concert, where Etnoday participants and teachers will be musicised, presenting to visitors the skills they have acquired in lessons.
