On 13 December 2021, the 16 th session of THE UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Intergovernmental Committee (COM 16), which will be held online by 18 December, starts.
During the session, 28 Latin America and Caribbean reports on the implementation of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Convention and 18 national reports on the values of UNESCO's emergency values will be considered. Applications for the inclusion of an element of intangible cultural heritage IN UNESCO international lists — 48 applications in the representative list, 6 applications in the list of emergency values and 5 applications in the so-called “good practice” list will be evaluated. There are several other issues in the agenda of the session, including an assessment of UNESCO's own performance in relation to the letter and spirit of the 2003 Convention.
Latvia is represented at this session by Sarmitte Pavulene, head of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Unit of Latvia's National Cultural Heritage, Gita Lancere – the Intangible Cultural Heritage Expert of Latvia's National Cultural Heritage and Anita Vaivade – the leading researcher of the Latvian Academy of Culture and the Head of THE UNESCO Cathedral.
