The UNESCO Convention on the Conservation of Intangible Cultural Heritage (hereinafter referred to as the Convention) was adopted in 2003. By January 2020, 178 countries of the world had acceded to the Convention. In order to strengthen the implementation of the principles of the Convention at national level, an intangible cultural heritage law was adopted in Latvia on 29 September 2016.
